Contemporary Floorwork with Undercurrent

Thursdays / 10-11:00AM

Dive into Undercurrent to unpack the vigor, mechanics, and efficiency of getting low. This class will examine how we can use the architecture of our bodies to make challenging movements easeful, employable, and nourishing. Undercurrent strives to support movers in balancing and strengthening their bodies while adding versatility to their movement toolsets. This one-hour online class will focus on functional sequencing, conditioning, and fluidity. By beginning with somatic-based core engagement and stabilization exercises, the body will build foundational muscle memory, eventually opening up and weaving together more complex pathways to find a cathartic release into a floorwork flow.

Please note, as Undercurrent adjusts to the recent shifts in our social, emotional, political, environmental, and economic landscapes, this will not be the usual Undercurrent experience. Rather, these online classes will connect us to one another through this virtual medium with unique challenges, perspectives, and opportunities for our physical practice and community intimacy.

Undercurrent is a Seattle-based movement project invested in the creation and curation of immersive pop-up performances, experiential design, community building, and the exploration and fine-tuning of a new contemporary floorwork technique. Founded in 2017 by Hilary Grumman, Liv Fauver, & Ashley Jade, Undercurrent has led classes and workshops for professional dancers at Fremont Abbey since the Fall of 2017 and at Velocity Dance Center since the Fall of 2018. Currently directed by Hilary Grumman, Undercurrent is deeply committed to exploring community process and excited to offer online classes for the first time.
