Throughout the year, Velocity offers a limited number of classes and workshops that often occur alongside our season’s performances and events, providing unique learning experiences led by renowned dance artists. Our primary class offerings happen each summer as part of the Seattle Festival of Dance + Improvisation, where we host a full schedule of intensives, classes, and workshops. SEATTLE FESTIVAL OF DANCE + IMPROVISATION
2025 LINEUP ANNOUNCED!
The Seattle Festival of Dance + Improvisation is a vibrant month-long immersion in the Seattle dance community, and a chance to explore with dance practitioners experimenting at the leading edge of dance technique, creative practices, and dance improvisation. Grounded in SFDI’s nearly 30 years of community-building and intergenerational collaboration, this festival is a gateway for new dancers to connect with artists making work in the Seattle dance and improvisation community, and a chance for Seattle-based artists to train and research with internationally renowned artists.

Ever been curious about making a dance? If you love using movement to tell stories, this is the place for you! We’ll mix dance, writing, and oral history to explore story-telling and social connection. Get ready to dream big, take risks. Led by Akoiya Harris and a talented local team, YCC ends with a performance at Langston Hughes, where you can share your creations with family and friends. YCC is a collaboration between Velocity Dance Center and Moonyeka, building on the rich history of LIL BROWN GIRLS CLUB and Seattle Youth Dance Collective. Let’s create something amazing together!
