ANNIE LIU

Annie Liu is a multidisciplinary artist and musician with a background in theatre and lighting design. They crash-landed in Seattle in the fall of 2021 to join On the Boards as Associate Producer after spending a decade in the desert of New Mexico, where four obvious reasons was born. Annie’s newfound love of performing since arriving in the PNW has found them playing at Folklife ’22 and ’23, as well as part of WET’s 2023 Six Pack Series. Annie loves, lives, and embodies punk, and in their music explores mental health, gender, and capitalism in an acoustic, folk punk setting. Annie is grateful to live, work, and create on the unceded lands of the Duwamish, Muckleshoot, and Coast Salish peoples.

This life- I’ve lived, day after day with thoughts of how it sh(c)ould end continuously creeping in, but push through I have and continue, I do.” Aviona “Creatrix” Rodriguez Brown is an Afro-Mexican curvaceous person who bends time and space itself to be involved in the art world. https://linktr.ee/avionacreatrix_official

ABOUT FIRELIGHT

Join us for Firelight at Cafe Racer. For these shows, Velocity’s Curating Artist in Residence (CAiR), Alyza DelPan-Monley, invites artists from dance, storytelling, music and performance backgrounds together to collaborate and co-imagine a performance evening.
It is an opportunity for artists to share their work and to perhaps stretch into less familiar forms and style collaborations. We begin the process by asking the group of artists what they’re interested in and what they care about and what they’d like to make art about, and then from there they create a performance.
This is a social gathering and intentionally low stakes and meant to be fun and caring and we invite you to show up, grab a drink, bring friends, socialize and see what these artists have created.

ACCESS INFORMATION

For this month’s Firelight, the artists have been visioning how to make a space that feels safe and accessible for those that are COVID cautious.

We acknowledge that while much of society and mainstream culture has moved into a “post-pandemic” mindset, that there are still many people in our community who are not able to attend public events for risk of transmission.

To help create an intentional and safe space, this event will be mask-required. We are also going to hold off on opening the bar until after the performance part of the show, so that we can really guarantee that audience members keep their masks on during the entirety of the performance. After the show finishes, there will be time for mingling and drinking and removing of masks.

We also ask and recommend that you take rapid tests before the event. We will have some available at the venue if your supply is low.

The performers will be unmasked during their performances, and will have taken PCR tests earlier in the week and a rapid test the day of show.

The run-time of the show will be approximately 60 min, and will include live performances by Temmy & Jeffrey, NEVE, Leanna Keith, Brian Dang and Cessa Betancourt. After the show, we will open the bar and have time for mingling and hanging out.

We look forward to seeing you!

For special accommodations, advanced word to operations@velocitydancecenter.org can help in preparations.
