BRIDGE PROJECT 2027
3 new works by Dany Srey-Snow, Davianna Griffin and Sadie Szabelski
FEB 4-6 | 7:30 PM + FEB 6 | 2 PM | 12th Ave Arts Studio
Bridge Project is Velocity’s Emerging Creative Incubator, a multigenerational, intensive process aimed at connecting artists to each other and audiences to dance artists.
Mother Tongue, Mother Body is an experimental movement work by Dany Srey-Snow that expands from her solo Neang Yeak, reframing the feared giant of Khmer mythology alongside the Hindu goddess Kali as feminine forces of protection, destruction, and transformation. Pulling from Dany’s experience as a daughter of refugees, mother of three, and survivor, and honoring her relationship with her womb ~ Mother Tongue, Mother Body bridges mysticism through the body. This work enters a trance-like ceremony, allowing the womb and vocal cords to become gateways to ancestral transmission and spiritual messages.
Aftertaste (working title) by Davianna Griffin: This new solo work physicalizes my cataclysmic relationship with grief through movement, sound, and text. Made through my lens as a Black, queer woman, it invites audiences to name their own grief through call-and-response, answering a culture that asks Black women in particular to carry their weight silently.
Untitled by Sadie Szabelski: My work explores body history: a meditation on time as a wasteland, modern evolution, and the surreal conditions that compel us to shapeshift. Somewhere between survival and liberation, the body bends, mutates, yet remains supple.
JODY KUEHNER / CHERDONNA SHINATRA
Metals and Matter of You
APR 15-17 + APR 22-24 | 7:30 PM | 12th Ave Arts Mainstage
Metals and Matter of You, is a new performance work by Jody Kuehner/Cherdonna Shinatra. Cherdonna will act as a death doula in guiding audiences through an exploration of death, decomposition, and consciousness through dance, drag, song, and storytelling. The project is being made in collaboration with Recompose, a queer women-owned Seattle green funeral home that specializes in human composting. Similar to how Recompose facilitates the transformation of the body into soil that generates new life, this project aims to facilitate a transformation in how people conceptualize death from something to be feared to something that can be experienced with care and compassion.
LOOK/OUT is a new evening-length living exhibition of psychedelic performance by Fox Whitney. Inspired as much by Andy Warhol’s Factory as your neighborhood thrift store, the work blends experimental choreography, monumental installation, projection, drag, and original live music into a constantly mutating theatrical landscape. For more than a decade, Fox Whitney has been publicly transitioning while making experimental art. LOOK/OUT is what happens when all of those artistic lives collide. Whitney remixes artistic lineage, queer nightlife, and personal history through a transfuturist lens. Featuring original music by Light Aloud and an ensemble of queer and trans collaborators, LOOK/OUT invites audiences into a mutating world where sculpture dances, history gets dragged, and transformation becomes an artistic medium.
KARA BEADLE / HEAP TROUPE
Car Sick
MAY 21-22 | 7:30 PM + MAY 23 | 2 PM | Freeway Park Garage, 1267 Hubbell Pl
Car Sick will invite audiences to explore a multilevel underground parking complex that has been transformed into a bizarre dystopian vision of motorodom, aka Car Culture. Audiences will be led throughout the garage to witness dance and drama performances: a car crashes through a wedding while a man and motor read their vows; dancers in vehicular-drag tumble from the bed of a truck; audience members are sucked through a tailpipe into a fever dream of motor industry propaganda, inspired by road rage gestures, gendered personification of cars, and the visceral feeling of being car-sick.
Alice Gosti / MALACARNE, SFD+I participants, and the Seattle Public Library become collaborators in a luminous civic body where dancers explore how architecture, history, politics, and care shape embodied practice through set material and creative response.
SFD+I PERFORMANCE COHORTS SHOWCASE

Wave Jumper by mayfield brooks: Wave Jumper is a dance spell created in conversation with the legendary Detroit underground electronic music duo, Drexciya. The duo named themselves after pregnant African women who were thrown off slave ships and gave birth to amphibious creatures known as the Drexciyan wave jumpers—great warriors of the abyss. RESEARCH IN PERFORMANCE
2 works by Milvia Pacheco Salvatierra + Naomi Macalalad Bragin, and Emmy Smith-Stewart + Jeffrey Azevedo
AUG 7 | 7:30 PM | 12th Ave Arts Mainstage
Grief Ritual by Milvia Pacheco Salvatierra + Naomi Macalalad Bragin: Grief Ritual is an improvisation-based performance collaboration between Milvia Pacheco Salvatierra and Naomi Macalalad Bragin, who explore the multiple dimensions of loss attached to their embodied experiences of migration as first and second generation immigrant women living in the United States. If migration begins with a departure, then how do we choose what we carry with us and what we leave behind?
Emmy in her tub by Emmy Smith-Stewart + Jeffrey Azevedo: Emmy in her tub is a dance meeting lyrical essay composed and choreographed in her bath tub infused with magnesium chloride between 1–3am under red light. The performance adapts the stories of artist Greer Lankton hosting friends while bathing in her tub into a performance score, inviting the audience into Emmy’s nightly bath time ritual.

A West Coast Experimental Dance Festival
SEP 30-OCT 2 | 7:30 PM | 12th Ave Arts Mainstage

untitled new work by kelly langeslay: so the curtain goes out& it’s all right there, just like you’ve always dreamed. there won’t be a curtain, it’s not that kind of show. the wasps are piling up on the windowsills now—six in the kitchen& two in the bathroom. exoskeletons in varying states of decay. if they would just agree to split the rent i wouldn’t have to work so much& i could decay too. curtain goes out& the world zooms in till it’s just us. you don’t dream anymore but it’s okay cause theater isn’t real& besides i told you last time we’re both unreliable narrators& there’s no curtain anyway.
By My Own Hand, Part 5: INVISIBLE TOUCH by Allie Hankins: By My Own Hand, Part 5: INVISIBLE TOUCH is the final chapter of choreographer Allie Hankins’ eight-year performance series, an ongoing investigation into the slippery systems we use to define ourselves. In INVISIBLE TOUCH, Hankins steps out of the performing role, handing the material to an ensemble of longtime collaborators: Linda Austin, claire barrera, keyon gaskin, Takahiro Yamamoto, and Lu Yim.
