Presented through Velocity’s Nationally Emerging Creative Incubator Program

LOOK/OUT is a new evening-length living exhibition of psychedelic performance by Seattle based artist Fox Whitney.

Inspired as much by Andy Warhol’s Factory as your neighborhood thrift store, LOOK/OUT transforms the theater into a mutating landscape where choreography, installation, sculpture, projection, drag, original music, and experimental performance continually remake one another.

Built from more than a decade of publicly transitioning while working across dance, music, visual art, film, and drag, Whitney invites audiences into a transfuturist world shaped by artistic lineage, queer nightlife, and radical imagination. As both artist and subject, Whitney has watched himself and his artistic practice continually reinvent one another. LOOK/OUT is born from that collision.

Monumental wearable installations—including the sprawling Denim Ocean (NOT STONE BUTCH BLUES), constructed from reclaimed clothing—become living environments activated by an ensemble of queer and trans collaborators. For Fox, transition isn’t the story—it’s the medium.

Rather than following a linear narrative, LOOK/OUT unfolds through immersive installations, performances, and theatrical interventions that drag dance, theater, visual art, and queer history. LOOK/OUT lovingly samples artistic lineage the way a DJ samples records. No two shows are exactly alike. Each performance features a different second act drawn from Whitney’s growing constellation of works, inviting audiences to return and experience another version of the exhibition.

Featuring original music performed live by Whitney’s band Light Aloud, LOOK/OUT is camp, intimate, visually lush, and joyfully unpredictable—an invitation to spend an evening inside one artist’s record crate, thrift store, archive of obsessions, and ever-changing imagination.

ABOUT MADE IN SEATTLE

Velocity’s Nationally Emerging Creative Incubator, Made in Seattle, provides support to Seattle-based artists through early ideation, development, premiere, and national tour of the work. In this program, Velocity provides a seed commissioning fund, and encourages artists to schedule the development of their work over a few years with both creative and technical residencies alongside setting a full development and touring strategy that includes building relationships with national presenters and applying to both local and national creation and tour funding. Artists in this incubator have made multiple evening length works and often have existing national relationships from past touring and presenting. Through nuanced and responsive assistance, over a multi-year period, the incubator enables artists to push boundaries, and develop their best work at a scale and visibility level that can catapult them into the next career phase, and onto the national stage.
