OUT THERE is an experimental dance festival featuring West Coast dance artists who fearlessly push boundaries by making their wildest ideas happen on stage. These artists are here to f*ck shit up, and show us what is OUT THERE.
OUT THERE artists carry things across time, bodies, and the distance between people. In Week II, Tariq Mitri + Dominica Greene and josé e. abad make performance the place where relationships unfold, capturing the unfathomable intricacy of connection.
TARIQ MITRI + DOMINICA GREENE | WORKING TITLE: 7/17
Working Title: “7/17” is a new collaboration between Seattle-based performance artist Tariq Mitri and New York-based performance artist Dominica Greene, exploring soul and spirit through a decade-long connection. Rooted in improvisation, this work centers itself around love, land, journeys, longing, everything, and nothing.
josé e. abad | DIASPORADICA
DIASPORADICA is a three-hour long choreographic experiment comprised of three acts: Kickback; Performance; and Function. This experimental process-based work integrates contemporary dance, community engagement, sound production, installation, and ritual to blur the lines between Black sociality, leisure, spectatorship, and autofiction. Kickback is a soft entrance, inviting the audience to engage with the performers in leisure and game play. Function invites the audience back onto the seafloor, as the stage is reappropriated into a “club” space for us to collectively drop into social dance as communal, spiritual technology.

I am Dominica Greene, a biracial Black woman who cherishes and channels my Caribbean heritage and Queerness through an art-based existence. I believe that dance is one of our purest sources of hope and liberation. Based in Brooklyn, New York, I make conceptual, body-based work, rooted in my mission of reflecting to as many people as possible that they not only have the capacity to dance, but are in fact already dancing, perpetually. Utilizing various modalities, tasks, and mental/emotional states to cultivate safe environments for sensorial and creative exploration, I am to impress that dancing is not something to be learned, but something we have innate access to simply by being alive. I create time-centered ecosystems under this premise, to be interacted with and performed by any number of participants. My work has been presented by Arts on Site, A Shedding, BADDANCE, Carnegie Museum of Art, Center for Performance Research (CPR), Issue Project Room, Judson Memorial Church, LEIMAY, Movement Research, PROCESSA on Governors Island, Queer Spectra Arts Festival, Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company, Salt Contemporary Dance Company, and Triskelion Arts.
